Producer & Consumer Game • Dr. Ijezie • 7th Grade Science
The randomized two-word name on your paper β NOT your student ID!
Before we play, let's review the science.
Every ecosystem needs energy β and it all starts with the Sun. But organisms can't just absorb sunlight. They need producers to capture that energy first.
Producers (plants, algae, some bacteria) use photosynthesis to convert sunlight into glucose. They are the first link in every energy chain β without them, nothing else eats.
The suffix -vore comes from the Latin word "vorare" β "to swallow" or "to devour."
Spanish speakers β you already know this! "Devorar" in Spanish means "to devour." Same Latin root. So every "-vore" word tells you what that organism eats!
Latin: vorare → Spanish: devorar → English: devour → Science: -vore = "eater of ___"
2 Phases Γ 20 rounds of progressive difficulty. Each round: identify the organism. Use hints if stuck (β15 pts each). Answer fast for a surprise speed bonus! Scores save to the π Hall of Fame β compete with your whole class!
Both phases cover producers & consumers β Phase 2 goes deeper.
20 rounds Β· Classic organisms Β· Builds from easy to tricky boss rounds
20 NEW organisms Β· Deeper edge cases Β· Chemosynthesis, symbiosis & more
